The modelled stop levels
We do not score our modelled stop levels month by month. Tested across roughly 100,000 historical levels, price reached our hourly bands 47.4% of the time against 48.1% for a placebo price the same distance away on the other side: no edge, and nothing on this page is a signal. How the numbers are measured
- Data: COMEX gold futures (front month), hourly candles - the feed of our charts - with prices in the spot price a broker's XAUUSD quotes. A range is the same in either.
- The month is its CME Globex sessions, from 18:00 New York the evening before its first trading day to 17:00 on its last: the rollover most XAUUSD brokers start their candles at, so a broker's monthly candle should match within the spread. A chart that starts the month at midnight UTC will differ a little.
- A day is one session, 18:00 to 17:00 New York time; sessions with fewer than 20 of their 23 hourly candles are left out. The line is the range 80% of the 250 complete sessions before the month stayed under, so it was known on the month's first day.
- News days compare the release's hour and session with the median of the same window on the 20 weekdays before it that had no jobs report, CPI or Fed decision.
